![]() ![]() ![]() In 1994, Sagoo signed with Sony Records to produce Bollywood Flashback. Other material during this period included Star Crazy and Sagoo's 1991 collaboration with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan on Magic Touch. Through this relationship, he released his first album, Wham Bam which spawned a sequel, Wham Bam 2. The single became a hit and Sagoo joined OSA as their full-time in-house producer. In 1989, Oriental Star Agencies, UK based record label, asked him to remix a Punjabi track called "Hey Jamalo". These home-made creations fused Western dance and hip hop with Indian music. He spent his college years producing mix-tapes for friends and dee-jaying at local events. In his teens, Sagoo developed a taste for reggae, soul and disco. His father Saminder Sagoo ran his own retail music outlet in the 1970s, after playing in The Musafirs in the late 1960s. Sagoo grew up in the Balsall Heath area of Birmingham. He is the figurehead of the UK/Belgium-based entertainment company, Fresh Dope Industries. He entered the recording and entertainment industries in 1989. Born in Delhi, India, Sagoo was raised in Birmingham, England. Rising from the East followed in 1996, and Sountracks: For Your Life was released in 1999.Baljit Singh "Bally" Sagoo ( Punjabi: ਬਲਜੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੱਗੂ, born ) is a British-Indian record producer and DJ. It was evidence of his versatility and their belief in his potential. In 1994 it was announced that he had signed a major deal with Columbia/Sony. Bally Sagoo and Devissaro contributed the music to new dance works by Daksha Sheth and Roger Sinha performed by Yuva (a young South Asian dance company) under the collective title of Tongues Untied in September as part of the annual Vivarta Festival in London. ![]() The kitchen-sink approach so beloved of non-Indian commentators was a tradition that Bally Sagoo could take to heart. His old Indian film-music background has also influenced his art, made tangible around the time of 1995's Bollywood Flashback but also in an underlying sense since film music has created a series of conventions for presenting itself. His music incorporates all manner of bhangra, hip-hop and ragga. The New Delhi-born Bally Sagoo grew up in Britain where he established a reputation as one of the more happening purveyors of dance music. ![]()
